Connect iiiftools to ChatGPT

iiiftools connects to ChatGPT as a custom app (formerly called a “connector”). You add it on the web (chatgpt.com) through Developer mode.

Requirements

Section titled “Requirements”
  • An iiiftools account.
  • A ChatGPT plan that supports custom apps: Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise, or Edu. Custom MCP apps are not available on Free.
  • Custom MCP apps live behind Developer mode, which gives full MCP client support.

1. Enable Developer mode

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps (Apps & Connectors).
  2. Open Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
    • On Team/Enterprise/Edu, an admin may need to enable this first under Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected data / Developer mode.

2. Create the app

Section titled “2. Create the app”
  1. Back in Settings → Apps, select Create (Create app).
  2. Give it a name (e.g. iiiftools) and a short description (e.g. “Resolves digital-library viewer URLs to IIIF manifests and fetches manuscript page images”).
  3. For the MCP server URL, paste https://iiiftools.pangur.io/mcp.
  4. Choose OAuth authentication, then create the app.
  5. When prompted, authenticate with your iiiftools account in the browser.

Use it

Section titled “Use it”

Enable the app in a chat and paste a viewer URL:

Resolve http://hdl.handle.net/10107/4388829 and describe the layout of the first few folios.

ChatGPT can also discover previous sessions through the app’s search and fetch tools.
